Flashing images traveling in a hyper reality of technology vs. fashion stuck in a static processing of information.

AMEXICA (fabric flags)
America and Mexico. In specifically the combination of the culture of Chihuahua, Mexico and Los Angeles, CA to create a visual dynamic showcasing being a Mexican American through a different light of constant flux of layered information.
Represented through four different subcultures within Amexica which covers the basics of fashion, music, food, and government. Building a new story spoken by icons that stand by each subculture, creating AMEXICA.
A manifesto that speaks for several topics as sexuality, technology, war, industries, religion, etc. Creating a mashup of voices that are against the norm through straight forward experts from articles and imagery with hidden messages.
“I AM THE PRODUCT OF CREATION”
Is a series of three images silkscreened on silk organza fabric. The portraits are to represent three generations in my family and their connection with fashion.
Each of their stories is summarized by a sentence silkscreened delicately on the bottom of each image.
Created typeface to stand as imagery. To create movement, as well as forms and patterns by combining each letterform.
Vintage newspaper imagery manipulated naturally by hand and exposures to light to substitute a digital effect.
Poster series based on AIDS epidemic in the 90s. Topic was chosen by doing a newspaper research on my birthdate, December 10 1991.
This poster shows how the 90s was declared a bad decade for Aids. Bush knew this ahead of time and kept silence. Eventually when he declared so he would always keep a smile on and go to meetings with top health officials to discuss this topic, fooling everyone with playing the good guy, “The doctor.”
After Magic Johnson came clear about having Aids he had people speculating about other celebrities having Aids as well. One being Madonna, her sexual life was focused on quickly twisting the truth of the importance of the matter, simply adding to the stigma. Many saying she had Aids because she was such a “Sex symbol."
Being an athlete Magic Johnson was constantly in the eyes of the teen audience. After he came out open about having Aids the youth did not give up on him but surprisingly took action and went out and got informed on the topic. Magic Johnson became a teacher with his courage to speak on the topic that was so taboo at the time.
Vintage photos I have collected over time to be incorporated in a digital form to compare and contrast the ever changing evolution of life.
Among the disappeared of Ayotzinapa are the 43 students from the Rural Normal School, who were taken by Iguala police Sept. 26 and allegedly turned over to members of the Guerreros Unidos drug gang that rules parts of the state. These portraits are taken and manipulated depicting the lost and forgotten souls of such tragedies raising the question of where these individuals lay. The original photos that I worked over seize to exist therefore I wanted to bring to life the legacy that the students left and that many others continue fight for, the mission for peace. These series of images are meant to spark awareness of the manipulation and control of the Mexican government.
